Bitcoin only · what checkout really allows
Bitcoin merchants an AI agent can pay
Some of them, with limits. Of the 151 merchants we marked YES, 18 publish a direct Bitcoin or Lightning route. 132 take Bitcoin through a processor, and 59 of the KINDA rows are gift cards. A merchant taking Bitcoin is not the same as a checkout an agent can finish.
Three routes, three different answers
| Route | Count | What it means for an agent |
|---|---|---|
| Direct Bitcoin route | 18 | The merchant’s own payment page lists a Bitcoin address, an on-chain checkout or Lightning. The agent still has to create the order and read the amount. |
| Processor checkout | 132 | BitPay, CoinGate, CoinPayments, OpenNode or another processor creates the invoice. The merchant checkout may still need a browser, an account or a person. |
| Gift card via BitPay | 59 KINDA | The card can be bought with crypto, then redeemed at the merchant. A person usually redeems it. |
| Processor directory row | 1 | A listing for a payment processor, not a shop you can buy from. |
Counts come from data/bitcoin.json as of 2026-10-24. The route labels are the merchant’s recorded payment method. We did not place an order at any merchant.

These rows publish their own Bitcoin address, on-chain checkout or Lightning route. The link goes to the merchant’s site. The entry link opens our proof row.

A few processor-route merchants
The other 132 YES merchants take Bitcoin through a processor. These 12 are picked for developer relevance, not ranked. All of them still have a merchant checkout in front of the Bitcoin payment.

Gift cards: KINDA, not agent checkout
59 rows are marked KINDA because the only recorded route is a gift card bought with crypto via BitPay. An agent might be able to buy the card. A person still redeems it at the merchant. A sample of 8, alphabetical:

Where an agent still needs a human
- Only 18 of 151 YES rows show a direct route. The rest depend on a processor checkout we did not test end to end.
- A merchant listing records that Bitcoin is accepted. It does not record whether the cart, account, region check or CAPTCHA can be completed by software.
- 59 KINDA rows are gift cards. Buying the card is not the same as buying from the merchant.
- 3 more KINDA rows are converters or “crypto” lists with an unknown mechanism. 2 are processor routes. Treat both as human-assisted.
- The direct route is still only a payment method. A VPS or domain shop can ask for an account before it shows the invoice.
